My morning walk
You surprised me with the ease in which I got to know you.
It was a simple challenge inspired by a speaker in a productivity workshop in the New Year — I want to change and grow my business you see — just five days, twenty minutes, no excuses or arguments, see how it feels, walk before coffee then get on with my day.
The dopamine guy also talked about fasting from your phone at the start of the day; added into my morning walking challenge I also didn’t look at my phone until I sat down with my coffee.
Brain space and quiet! A warm body, softer joints, natural light into my eyes which Huberman says is the best way to set your circadian rhythm. Now I’m over a month in, I’ve walked at least six mornings out of seven and I also see it’s an exercise in mindfulness.
Different days show me different things and sometimes I even find treasure!
There’s the day I noticed so many green things.
A few days I’ve been conscious of birds, often singing, sometimes flying.
On the third week of walking past the same house every day I noticed the snowflake stickers in the window. Next door has a lovely plaque of a hare.
The treasure I’ve collected so far is a tiny clear plastic frog pendant which is special because it reminds me of a trinket I was given at a festival last year.
And just last week I found an old Raleigh bike badge which has inspired a character name for a book I don’t know the story of yet.
I’ve only needed to use my umbrella once, which I like to think is your demonstration of love for me, to welcome me, to encourage me to join you.
I’m looking forward to watching the buds opening as the weeks get closer to spring.
The thing I most love about you Morning Walk, is that you’ve slotted so well into my life I don’t have to think about whether I want you, it just is you and me in the morning, no question. Easy.
