Do you know your body has it’s own natural pacing system?

If you tune in, you can feel it taking control.

A yellow heart-shaped leaf sitting on the edge of a firepit made of dirt and stones.

Have you noticed that if you have a long day with different commitments spread across it you will start to get tired as you are approaching the last one (assuming you are physically well and not exhausted)?

But then if you have a shorter day with less things happening you will start to feel your body winding down as you approach the final event/commitment regardless how much earlier it is then yesterday?

Are you a crunchy leaf stomper?

Have you ever seen an irregular scattering of leaves in your path and noticed your stride adjust just so, that then you can step on each one and if a gentle breeze should move one you have to do a little jig lest you miss it?

What about the ever increasing urge to pee as you get closer to home? (I know this one is controversial because this one is usually a little too sensitive and makes for an anguished entry into the house!)

These are all illustrations of how the body adjusts itself to what it knows is coming. We can override it of course, and many do, often to the point of burnout, and I reckon the reason so many of us are burning out (aside from all the horror in the world) is because our demands are over what our bodies are capable of managing long-term.

I don’t have a solution to that, I too, am struggling to find balance.

What I do have though is a deeper awareness of when my body is trying to signal that it’s adjusted enough and now needs rest. I can’t always honour that but the information allows me to plan better next time.

Your body is constantly communicating with you. It only wants what’s best. Listen.
