You should be here tonight. You agreed it would be a mistake if you came.
I’m glad of my choice, certain it’s the right one — self-preservation you see?
Tears flow — for me or you? I’m hurt. I know you will be too. Now we both have empty space to fill.
It would have been nicer if you were here. Until I’m wrangling with my grief again. It’s not your fault. You didn’t abandon me. Ripples from others make this vessel unstable.
Here I am, alone, in the quiet, with my self-respect, pride and shiny new boundaries for company.
